Join our summer Zoo Crew!  You'll help us deliver great guest service while connecting our guests with more than 1,000 animals.  All openings are temporary, seasonal positions, ranging from 15 to 40 hours per week during the zoo season, April 21-October 14, 2012. Read the job descriptions below to learn more, then print out and complete the appropriate application(s).  Bring the application(s) to the Zoo Job Fair. You may apply for one, two, or all three opportunities. Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo: Zoo Assistant

Service System Associates: Gift Shop Sales Associate

Service System Associates: Food Service Associate 

Zoo Assistants help zoo guests at the front gate, rides, and throughout the zoo.
 
Responsibilities
·Selling admission, memberships, and ride passes
·Assisting guests at rides and activities
·Operating rides
·Landscaping duties such as mowing, weeding, and watering
·Maintenance duties such as cleaning restrooms and emptying trash cans
·Perform other duties as necessary
·Weekends and holidays are required
·Work outdoors in all weather conditions
 
Seasonal, Part-time: Mid-April to Mid-Oct.
Up to 40 hrs/week
Starting pay: $7.25/hour
Must be at least 16 years of age

Sales Associates work at the Wild Things Gift Shop, Stroller Rental, and other retail locations at the zoo.
 
Responsibilities
·Greet and assist guests
·Serve guests quickly and efficiently
·Adhere to SSA customer service program
·Stock and display merchandise in shops
·Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment
·Uphold policies and procedures
·Oversee quality and control of product
·Maintain accurate cash drawers
·Perform other duties as necessary
 
Seasonal, Part-time: Mid-April to Mid-Oct.
15 to 40 hrs/week
Starting pay: $7.25/hour

Food Service Associates work at restaurants, concession stands, and concession carts at the zoo.

Current Full and Part-Time Openingszoo keeper

Veterinary Intern
The Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo is currently taking applications for a Veterinary Intern. The zoo houses a diverse collection of over 1000 animals representing over 190 species. The Veterinary Intern is an educational position that works along with the Veterinarian to provide medical and surgical care for the zoo’s animal collection. This is a one-year position intended to provide clinically focused experience in all aspects of zoological medicine. The Veterinary Intern is an active member of the veterinary team which consists of one full time veterinarian, two registered veterinary technicians, a hospital keeper/veterinary assistant, and a registrar. In addition to the clinical work, the Veterinary Intern will also engage in topic rounds, journal rounds, research projects, presentations, and manuscript writing. The purpose of the internship is to provide experience to improve clinical competency with zoological species and to prepare the intern for a zoological medicine residency or a clinical position in a zoological institution. The position is a full-time, FLSA exempt position requiring at least 40 hrs/wk. The position does occasionally require work on days off, weekends, and holidays. The starting date for the one-year position is 1 July 2012. The successful candidate should have a high degree of organization, attention to detail, good communication skills, professionalism, and a working knowledge of veterinary medicine and surgery. A DVM degree or equivalent from an AVMA-accredited veterinary school, a valid Indiana veterinary license, and a valid driver's license are required. One year of post-graduate veterinary experience in private practice or completion of a veterinary internship is preferred.

Zoo Instructor: Wild Nights (Seasonal)
The zoo is searching for energetic and enthusiastic individuals to lead our popular Wild Nights sleepover programs. The successful candidate will have experience working with youth in a program setting; a desire to share the zoo and its animals with children; and a positive attitude. Licensed teachers or pre-service teachers are preferred. For a complete job description, click here.  This is a part-time, seasonal position. The Instructor will lead two to four programs per month, Thursdays through Saturdays, from late April through mid-October as program demand dictates, 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 a.m., plus evening training classes in March and April.

Zoo Instructor: Summer Safari (Seasonal)
The zoo is searching for energetic and enthusiastic individuals to serve as Instructors for our popular Summer Safari Day Camp. The successful candidate will have experience working with youth in a program setting; a desire to share the zoo and its animals with children; and a positive attitude. Licensed teachers or pre-service teachers are preferred. For a complete job description, click here. This is a seasonal position. The Instructor will teach up to eight weeks of camp, Mondays through Fridays, June 11- August 3, 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., plus evening and weekend training classes in early June.

Education Weekend Supervisor (Seasonal)
The zoo is searching for a Weekend Supervisor for the Education Department. The Weekend Supervisor provides support to the zoo education department by coordinating programs, events, part-time staff, and volunteers on weekends during the zoo season, April 21-October 14, 2012. Duties include monitoring the daily activities of program instructors, volunteers, and mascot crew; conducting programs as needed; communicating effectively and courteously with zoo guests and zoo staff; and contributing to a positive experience for zoo guests. Experience in informal learning environment or administrative support is preferred.  For a complete job description, click here.
 
This is a part-time, seasonal position. Hours are 8am – 5pm Saturdays and Sundays, plus one 2-hour meeting on a weekday to be determined, from April 21 – October 14, 2012.
