Z- TEAM Teen Volunteer Supervisor
Definition
By providing daily supervision and instruction, foster growth and
leadership among the zoo’s 150 Z-TEAM volunteers age 13-17.
Duties
- Assist in training and orientation for teen volunteers
- Check in and dismiss teen volunteers daily
- Walk grounds to supervise, observe, and encourage Z-TEAM members as they work at their assigned positions
- Help Z-TEAM members develop leadership skills through daily meetings and program curriculum
- Replenish daily program supplies
- Coordinate daily zoo grounds/maintenance needs with zoo staff
- Conduct evaluation of teens
- Assist with teen special events and recognition
- Ensure guidelines and policies are being followed
- Assist with assessment of program effectiveness at the end of the summer
- Work with Volunteer Coordinator to address and solve any issues that arise and to ensure smooth operation of program
- Assist with zoo special events and programs, as needed
- Utilize computer software to maintain volunteer records, as needed
- Perform a variety of skilled and unskilled tasks as assigned by the Volunteer Coordinator
Requirements
- Enthusiastic and energetic with a positive attitude
- Ability to work with teenagers in an appropriate manner
- Ability to encourage and guide teen volunteers
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Responsible and dependable
- Strong leadership skills
- Ability to complete tasks and assignments with minimal supervision
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with zoo staff, volunteers, and the general public
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, e-mail, and internet
- Ability to serve as an ambassador for the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo and all its endeavors
- Teaching or education-related background or area of study preferred
- Experience working with kids ages 13-17 preferred
License Needed
Valid Driver’s License
Supervison
Serve as a team member in the Zoo
Education Department under the guidance of the Volunteer Coordinator.
Hours
This position is a full-time, seasonal
position for nine weeks from June 8 – August 10, 2010, Monday through
Friday, 7:30 to 4:00 p.m. Some weekend, holiday, or evening work may
be required.
Salary
$9.00/hour
