Zoo to Celebrate “Year of the
Frog” on June 12
The year 2008 has gone to the frogs! On Thursday, June 12 from 10:00 a.m. to
3:00 p.m. “hop” into the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo to help celebrate the
Year of the Frog. Kids will learn ways to help frogs while having
a “hopping” good time!
Kids and adults are invited to learn about frogs and toads and the important
role they play in our environment. Kids can visit seven stations to participate
in unique Year of the Frog activities, including:
- Making Slime
- Leap like a frog
- Build a super-sized frog
- Meet real frogs
There will be prizes for all who participate in the Year of the Frog
activities. All Year of the Frog activities are free with
zoo admission.
The Association of Zoos and Aquariums, of which the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo
is a member, is dedicating 2008 as the Year of the Frog to make
zoo visitors aware that many frogs, toads, and other amphibians are facing
extinction around the globe. The combined effect of habitat destruction, climate
change, pollution, and disease is drastically affecting amphibian populations.
Zoos are helping to spread the word about endangered amphibians and get visitors
involved in saving these important creatures.
The Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo is one of the area’s major attractions, drawing
500,000 visitors every day. The Zoo was named one of the country’s “Ten Best
Zoos for Kids.”
The zoo is open every day 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily until October 12.
Admission is $9.50 for adults, $6.50 for children age 2-14, and $8.50 for
seniors over age 60. Babies age 1 and under and Zoo Society Members are
admitted free.
