Baby Swamp Monkey delights Zoo Guests

Swamp Monkey
Anderson the baby swamp monkey investigates a spinach leaf before munching on it.
If you're looking nonstop action, look no further than the swamp monkey exhibit in the African Journey, where 6-month-old Anderson is on the move.

"He loves to bother his sister [3-year-old Calvin] and get her in trouble," says Zoo Keeper Whitney Johnson.  "But their mother usually steps in if things get out of hand."

Born in January, the baby was named Anderson because he and Zoo Director Jim Anderson share a birthday.

"It's been interesting to watch the group dynamics in the family," says Johnson.  Anderson and Calvin share the spacious new exhibit with mom Bree and dad Bangi.

Because swamp monkeys are one of the few monkeys who enjoy water, their new exhibit has an extensive water feature.  "Calvin likes to dip her feet into the water, but we haven't seen anyone swimming in there yet," Johnson says.

Spend some time observing the swamp monkey family on your next visit!
