Meet the Servals!
The very first African Journey animals have set foot in their new exhibit! The zoo's two servals, Roxanne and Phyllis, were introduced to their new homes in the African Journey last week, and today, the local media was on hand to meet these slender African cats. "This is a small step for a serval, but a giant leap for the zoo," said Zoo Director Jim Anderson. "We are looking forward to introducing these beautiful animals to our visitors when the African Journey opens on June 6." Both servals are adjusting well to their new home in the African Journey, according to African Journey Area Manager Amber Eagleson. Like all cats, they enjoy watching blowing leaves and birds flying overhead, then taking a long snooze in the sunshine. With long legs and slender bodies, servals are expert hunters. They can leap nine feet high to snatch birds out of the air - one of the reasons that the serval exhibit has a mesh top! In just ten weeks, you and your family will see the servals yourself - and all the other amazing animals - when the African Journey opens! Members-only Preview: June 5
