Cookie and Smokey want to meet you!
Nothing can match the look of wonder on a child's face the first time they ride a pony at the zoo! If your child was one of the 40,000 kids who enjoyed a Pony Ride in 2007, they've probably ridden Cookie and Smokey, two of the most popular horses in the corral.
Cookie, age 22, is a 32" high miniature horse who was born and raised on the Shipshewana, Indiana farm of the Hooley family, who own and operate the Pony Ride. "Cookie is our Cadillac," says owner Byron Hooley, noting that Cookie is in her 15th year of giving rides at the zoo. Smokey, age 26, is a small standard bred horse who traded his job pulling buggies for a new assignment - giving rides at the zoo. "Smokey gives older children a chance to ride a bigger horse," Hooley says. Each horse wears a nameplate on his or her bridle, so it's easy
to get to know your favorite! Pony rides cost four tokens per
ride; tokens may be purchased in the booth next to the corral.
