Students raise more than $16,000
for the African Journey

Zebra
Local students raised more than $16,000 for the African Journey.
This winter and spring, more than 13,000 students in 35 local schools raised money for the African Journey by participating in the zoo's Wild Week program.  Students were encouraged to bring in spare change and place it in a money collection container styled like a 2-foot-tall African drum, while they studied African animals and geography during Wild Week.

Schools raising the most money per student were awarded $2,000, $1,000, and $500 gift certificates to Sweetwater to purchase equipment for their music program.  Here are our winners:

1st place:  Ascension Lutheran School
2nd place:  LaOtto Elementary School
3rd place:  Hoagland Elementary School

In all, students raised $16,029 for the African Journey!  Congratulations to the winning schools, and our thanks to all participating school corporations:  Fort Wayne Community Schools, East Noble School Corporation, Fort Wayne Lutheran Schools, North Adams Community Schools, East Allen County Schools, Canterbury School, Imagine Schools, Huntington Community Schools, and local preschools.  Thanks also to Sweetwater for their generous donation of gift certificates for the winning schools!
