Have
you walked to the African Village lately, or driven along Wells
Street? If so, you’ve seen the amazing progress that’s been
made at the African Journey construction site!
Buildings that will house the lions, hyenas,
vultures, and other animals are nearly complete. The next step
is to surround each building with giant Styrofoam blocks, then
spray the blocks with fiberglass-reinforced concrete. The result
will look just like the rock “kopjes” that protrude from the
otherwise flat African savannas. If all goes as planned, one
of these rock-covered buildings is scheduled to take shape before
your eyes this week!

It's not an igloo--these
Styrofoam blocks will form the foundation
for artificial rocks at the lion
exhibit.

This drawing

exhibits and viewing areas in the new African
Journey.
