Meet Jack Hanna!

Animal expert “Jungle Jack” Hanna, one of the most visible and
respected ambassadors between the human and animal worlds, is making a
special trip to the Fort Wayne Children's Zoo to meet and greet his many
fans! Jack’s hands-on approach has won him widespread acclaim as
Director Emeritus of the Columbus Zoo, conservationist, author,
television personality, and lifelong adventurer. Event is free with zoo
admission.

Jafari has a name, thanks to the 3,500
people who voted on our Name the Baby Giraffe web page. |

Introducing…Jafari!
Our baby giraffe has a name: Jafari! More than 3,500 people helped
choose the name online by selecting among five options presented by our
African Journey keepers. The name means “dignified” in the African
Swahili language.
We’ve just posted some videos taken by keepers shortly after Jafari
was born on August 5 to female giraffe Zuri. The videos show him just a
few minutes after birth when he’s trying to stand, and an hour later
when he finally succeeds!

You might see Jafari and his mother Zuri on exhibit this week -- they
are taking turns with the other giraffes until they are all introduced
to one another. And thanks to
all who voted!
